Andrei Shevchenko showed the he could still make a difference even at 35-years-old and making his first appearance in the European Championship. Arguably the best player in Ukrainian soccer history, Shevchenko knocked in a brace with goals in the 55th and 62 minutes.

Shevchenko JerseyThe striker did his best to score both his goals with his head and both were first rate. The equalizer saw Shevchenko dive to beat his defender to a cross at the 6-yard box and leave goalkeeper Andreas Isaksson with no chance.

The second goal came off a corner kick. Shevchenko lost his marker Zlatan Ibrahimović to the corner of the six yard box and sent a glancing header into the net. Sweden’s Carl Lustig could only shake his head as the Celtic defender left the post and allowed the ball to sneak in between him and his post.

“I am so emotional right now,” Shevchenko said in the post game interview. “It is so fantastic. It was deserved.”

And the goal surge could not have come at a better time as Sweden had just taken control of the game with Zlatan Ibrahimović’s goal in the 52nd minute.
