FC Twente will turn their attention to maintaining their domestic challenge on Sunday when they visit Feyenoord in the Eredivisie.
Co Adriaanse's side topped their Europa League group this week to qualify with Wisla Krakow whose victory at Twente, coupled with Fulham's draw against Odense, was enough to edge the Polish team into the knockout stage.
The draw for the last 32 will be made on Friday but Twente will now turn their attention to the league where they are third, four points behind leaders AZ Alkmaar and one adrift of second-placed PSV Eindhoven.
Wednesday night's defeat in Europe was only their second in all competitions this season and a disappointed Adriaanse admitted he had wanted the team to maintain their momentum into Sunday's game.
He told Channel RTL7: "They were better, they deserved it.
"We wanted to stay undefeated and came to win.
"It would have been better for Sunday's game against Feyenoord, then the mood would be better.
"Unfortunately, it did not happen."
Goalkeeper Nick Marsman echoed Adriaanse's sentiments and he is intent on returning to winning ways.
He told www.fctwente.nl: "It is unfortunate that we have not achieved a good result but we will try again at Feyenoord on Sunday. Then the other boys will be there again. "
Twente's only league defeat this season came at Roda JC in September and they have shown good form on the road, scoring 20 goals and conceding just eight.
However, sixth-placed Feyenoord are a tough proposition and beat PSV in their last home game.
Assistant coach Jean-Paul van Gastel played for Feyenoord for five years and he told ad.nl: "We do not yearn for the winter break. This game is extremely popular, with players and fans."
Leaders AZ Alkmaar visit NAC Breda, PSV face a tricky trip to fifth-placed Heerenveen for whom Bas Dost is on fire after he took his tally to 14 Eredivisie goals for the season with all five in his side's thrashing of Excelsior.
Ajax host ADO Den Haag with with all three games being played on Sunday.
On Saturday, seventh-placed Vitesse Arnhem visit Heracles as they look to maintain their challenge for a European spot.
They will be looking to hold off FC Groningen, with whom they drew last week, and who host FC Utrecht.
NEC Nijmegen and VVV Venlo - both of whom are struggling at the wrong end of the table - meet with the latter looking to build on their victory over Roda JC last time out.
Rock bottom Excelsior must travel to Roda as they look to bounce back from their 5-0 home thrashing by Heerenveen last time out.
Friday night sees De Graafschap host RKC Waalwijk.
