Carlo Ancelotti concedes Paris Saint-Germain need to improve in attack if they are to take control of Ligue 1 by beating Montpellier on Sunday.

Ancelotti: Wants more from PSG

PSG are top of the table and sit a single point ahead of their opponents heading in to the match, meaning victory for either could be a defining moment in the season.

Ancelotti saw his side prepare for the fixture with a nervy 1-0 win over Dijon in the Coupe de France on Wednesday night, a result that followed a disappointing goalless draw at Nice.

The former Chelsea boss saw plenty of positives against Dijon but is in no doubt about where his team need to do better.

"It was a good result and we're on our way to the quarter-finals, but at 1-0 it wasn't an easy match to control," he told Ligue1.com

"We're focused on the future. In attack, we did well, but we need to score more goals. We had chances but we didn't take them and we really need to be more clinical. We'll need to be better against Montpellier. They're a dangerous side.

"We struggled a little in the final minutes, but the main thing was to win to stay on our current dynamic and it's good for the confidence before hosting Montpellier."

Montpellier were turned over 3-0 in the reverse fixture in September but arrive at the Parc de Princes with genuine title ambitions.

France striker Olivier Giroud, for one, expects better this time.

"(In that game) we committed the kind of schoolboy errors that we've eliminated from our game in recent weeks," he said.

"We have a score to settle, and we want to continue with our attacking style while staying ultra-solid. We want to win all our matches, whether they're against PSG or not but a draw would also be a good result. All the pressure is on them, because we don't have much to lose."

Beneath the front-runners, Lyon, Lille and Rennes are each tied on 39 points in the race for third place.

Lille have first chance to put points on the board at Lorient on Saturday.

Lyon and Rennes are also away and travel to Bordeaux and St Etienne respectively on Sunday.

The league's bottom two sides meet as Sochaux host Auxerre and Saturday's fixtures are completed by Ajaccio against Brest, Nancy versus Toulouse, Evian's trip to Caen, Dijon clash with Nice and Valenciennes at Marseille.
