Liverpool revealed their 2015/16 home kit in a special event held at Anfield, the famous ground of the Merseyside club. The unveiling showcased the first offering from New Balance and the initial reaction has been overwhelmingly positive from fans.
The jersey stays true to tradition and is all red but the details are what really make this offering stand apart from recent ones.
The crew style collar has a ‘V’ insert at the front and a narrow band of white and gold at the seam with the jersey. This feature is also continued on the cuff of the sleeve.
The most distinguishing design element is the checkerboard jacquard on the chest of the jersey. The pattern slowly works from a dense checkerboard pattern at the top of the jersey to a longer more vertical representation at the bottom. The look is inspired by the numerous flags and scarves that take over the Kop stand on matchday.
The fabric literally has the club and culture woven into it. ‘Liverpool FC’ can be seen within the pattern on the jersey.
The Liver bird with the ‘L.F.C.’ of the club badge is over the heart and NB sponsor logo over the right chest while the Standard Chartered sponsor logo is across the chest.
And never far from the heats of Liverpool fans, the eternal flames in memory of the 96 who lost their lives in the tragic Hillsborough disaster in 1989 is embroidered in gold on the back of the jersey under the collar.
Daniel Sturridge, Raheem Sterling, Simon Mignolet, and Martin Škrtel were so impressed with the new jersey they took a moment to take a group selfie which turned out well considering they are the heart of the Reds team and not photographers.
The release comes as part of New Balance’s #HoldNothingBack campaign, another testament to the fans’ attitude towards the club.
