Atlético de Madrid and Nike continue their partnership which began in the 2001/02 season by releasing a great set of kits for the upcoming season. After unveiling a classy new Home Kit, now the news is out that newly-crowned Spanish champions will play in a grey kit for the first time in their history with the 2014/15 away kit.
Under the management of Diego Simeone, last season Atleti claimed the league title for the first time since 1996, and were seconds away from winning the Champions League. So far this summer they have added Mario Mandžukić to a squad that already includes the likes of Koke and Diego Godin as they prepare to battle for domestic and European glory again.
The new away jersey features three descending shades of grey in a large chevron pattern. There are hints of the red and blue that Los Rojiblancos use for their home shirt with red trim on the sleeves and rounded collar. The Nike logo also appears in red, whilst the Azerbaijan logo is blue and white. The Atleti badge is on the top-left of the jersey.
Inside the back of the neck is a Spanish flag and a tab with the words ‘Campeón del Mundo 1975’. This translates as ‘Champions of the World’ and commemorates the first time Atleti won the Intercontinental Cup.
The new away shorts are grey with a lighter grey stripe running down each side. The new socks are also grey, with a darker grey trim at the top and a chevron pattern on the back.
