Reading are sitting in 3rd place on the English Championship table and host 2nd place Middlesborough at the Madejski Stadium on Saturday. The in-form side will have the backing of the home fans as well as a new club anthem ‘They Call Us The Royals’ to cheer them to a victory and hopefully by the end of the season back to the Premier League.

The anthem, co-written by co-chairwoman Khunying Sasima Srivikorn, has been called ‘cheesy,’ ‘the worst thing ever,’ and ‘a truly terrible song’ to list just a few of the early critiques.

“I, along with my friends, wrote a song as a gift for Reading Football Club,” the singer Lady Sasima told GotReading. “We have made a music video together with it. So it will be an opening show. I was in the studio for many days doing that. It’s so meaningful for us to open the season well and for us to feel the spirit and the emotion of the fans with us…So we wrote the song which I’m pretty proud of. We tried to do the song in a trendy way.”

Royals’ fans heard the song earlier when it was played prior to their match against Leeds in August.  But it is now out for the world to hear…well some may prefer not to hear.

Although 1 fan, Jurassic_Parke, is willing to take the song if it means better players and results saying on Reddit, “For the unacquainted, our Thai owners are represented by our co-chairwoman, Lady Sasima, who personally wrote this song. It’s obviously aimed at the Asian market. Personally, I’m glad that she is taking such an interest in the club. I’ll take embarrassing things like this in return for them paying for Vydra, Piazon, the new academy etc. any day of the week.”

What do you think about the new Reading anthem?
