S365 Exclusive: Gomez Aims For K.C. Goals

Fresh Kansas City strike catch Herculez Gomez says he's eager to soak up the experience of his new veteran teammates and start contributing to the attack.
Dealt from Colorado earlier in the week, the 26-year old is confident he can get back to his best surrounded by the likes of Davy Arnaud, Claudio López and Josh Wolff.
Often set back by injuries, Gomez has thus far failed to match his 2005 MLS rookie season Galaxy goal total of 11 - but he assures it's not for a lack of trying and that the change of scenery will only energize his efforts.
"I'm willing to put the work in here," Gomez told Soccer365. "I'm willing to learn as much as I can from the players around me. We've got a lot of great players here, so I'm really excited to start again."
"In Colorado, I was usually one of the last ones to leave. I usually stuck around, but there wasn't a lot of offensive players to pick their brains, like there was in Los Angeles."
The forward holds no grudge over his Rapids exit, preferring instead to focus on regaining his scoring touch at a new adress. While not making any promises for this time, he noted that the move to Colorado led to some quick success.
"It (started fast) in Colorado until I got injured," recalled Gomez. "I scored on my debut there, and I'm not saying that's going to happen here, but (being traded) lit a fire under me."
"I was doing well until the injury, and just never got a fair shot to get my starting position back."
"Things happen," he shrugged. "I'm a big boy, I understand that."
As for his new club, Gomez sees plenty of bright days ahead for the Wizards, a team with several young standouts gaining MLS experience and a second team that currently holds the best record in the Reserve Division.
"Here I see a lot of potential for growth," he stated. "The team's very young and I think it speaks volumes with the reserve team they have, and how well they're playing."
"That should make fans excited about the future. I know fans want things now, but this is something special and it shouldn't be taken for granted."
Gomez will get his first chance to dent the net for Kansas City when they visit two-time defending champs Houston on Sunday.
