Dynamo Reserves Tie Chivas
2008-05-05 17:05:07

The Houston Dynamo and Chivas USA played to a 1-1 tie in MLS Reserve Division action Sunday morning at Robertson Stadium.

Kraig Chiles scored for Chivas USA in the 54th minute, but Geoff Cameron rescued a point for the Dynamo with a late header.

The game started slowly, and the best chance of the first half fell to Dynamo striker Chris Wondolowski in the 32nd minute. A long ball from defender Mike Chabala found Kyle Brown on the left side of the penalty area, and Brown freed Wondolowski with a square pass across the top of the box, but his right-footed shot hit the outside of the post.

Both teams found more chances in the second half, with Houston applying early pressure. A deflected free kick fell to Cameron with Chivas USA goalkeeper Dan Kennedy out of net, but Cameron's shot was blocked in the six-yard box.

Chivas USA took the lead with a well-worked counter-attack in the 54th minute. Midfielder Gerson Mayen created the play at the top of the penalty area with a patient through ball for Anthony Hamilton on the left, and the wide-open Hamilton crossed the ball to the back post, where Chiles finished into an empty net.

Spurred on by the goal, Chivas USA created two chances soon after, with Dynamo goalkeeper Tony Caig stopping a Justin Braun shot, and defender Erik Ustruck clearing a Hamilton shoot out of the six-yard box.

The Dynamo stepped up the pressure in the final 20 minutes, beginning with a John Michael Hayden free kick that just missed the top right corner. Brown also went close before the Dynamo finally tied the game in the 79th minute from a right-wing free kick. Hayden bent a cross to the top of the six-yard box, and Cameron rose to head past Kennedy to tie the game.

With Houston pushing forward, Chivas USA almost caught Houston out in the 86th minute when Caig showed good reflexes to save a Hamilton one-timer. Despite Houston's six corner kicks, the match ended with the score 1-1.
