Fresh from his first club start since ADO Den Haag's 2005/06 Eredivisie closer, new Colorado backline marshal Cory Gibbs says he was over the moon after working 90 minutes in a winning debut against Kansas City on the weekend.
After over two years of knee and foot troubles, the U.S. international made an immediate impact with the Rapids, who grabbed a 2-1 win and boosted their playoff chances.
Gibbs, who missed out World Cup 2006 and failed to log even a single first team appearance in two subsequent seasons with Charlton, admits it was tough to suppress his happiness when the final whistle sounded.
"The feeling was overbearing," Gibbs told Soccer365. "I really didn't get so overjoyed because I am a very neutral person, but I did thank God for all he did for me."
"Getting the victory was the icing on the cake!"
The much-needed home win over the Wizards vaulted the Rapids up to fourth in the West, and Gibbs is confident the club being able to close the campaign strong.
"The way we defended and then counterattacked as a unit was absolutely amazing," stated the center back. "We really have quality players here and I really believe we have a good run towards the end of the season."
Gibbs and Colorado now hits the road to tackle D.C. United on Saturday.
