Memphis Depay is rumored to be a top target for clubs such as Manchester United and Tottenaham Hotspur this summer but the Netherlands international tied up a new cleat endorsement switching from adidas to Under Armour earlier this week.

“I wanted Under Armour in my corner because they will help me elevate my game until I reach my dreams. I’m going to help Under Armour bring the impact they’ve had in American Football, Basketball and sport performance to the football pitch.”

The 21-year-old is one of the fastest rising soccer stars in the world.  He scored 2 goals at the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil to become the youngest Dutch player to ever score at the World Cup.  He has not had a let-down since returning to PSV Eindhoven in the Dutch Eredivisie scoring 21 goals in all competitions thus far in 2014/15.  He is currently pacing the field in the charge to win the league golden boot.

Memphis will start wearing his new cleats on March 1 and will begin to feature in global campaigns.  He will also work with the brand on developing new products.

And the connection raises the questions of whether this deal may help the youngster end up next season at Tottenham, an Under Armour sponsored team.

Under Armour soccer cleats are available at World Soccer Shop.
