Memphis Depay made headlines last month when he debuted the new Under Armour Speedform cleats with his club team PSV Eindhoven. He is rumored to be ready to unveil a new look when he takes the field for the Netherlands in their friendly today against the U.S.
The winger will become the first player to wear a custom pair of country-inspired cleats. The cleat is a tribute to the efforts for a player working to earn a spot on his country’s national team and at the youthful age of 21 already earning 15 caps and playing in a FIFA World Cup.
The striking upper uses a color fade with orange, the color of the jersey of the Dutch national team, and gold, Memphis’ favorite color. The gold is continued on the outsole and recognizes Memphis accomplishments last season by winning the Eredivisie Golden Boot while helping Eindhoven to the league title.
The cleat also highlights one of the Netherlands most iconic symbols, the windmill. There are over 1,000 windmills in Holland. The windmill is displayed on the insole of the cleat.
Under Armour Speedform cleats are available at World Soccer Shop.
