Manchester United is in the United States preparing for a Premier League title run. The Red Devils have been working on this process since Louis van Gaal was hired before the 2014/15 campaign and there are pieces still to be set in place. But there is confidence among the squad that a title run is a realistic goal.
Summer signing Bastian Schweinsteiger is getting a first impression look at the squad and is confident of success. And the midfielder knows a thing or two about championship caliber teams having won every major club title with Bayern Munich and of course the World Cup with Germany.
“I have to say the quality is huge,” he told the official Manchester United website. “I am sure with this team, it is possible to win titles and after a week I can say that. We have a good defence, we have good defensive players, and we have quality players who can make the difference in high-level matches.”
Schweinsteiger made his debut against Club American in their first match of the International Champions Cup.
“It was great, an absolutely great feeling to wear the jersey and I think we also played well and I am looking forward to playing more games, especially at Old Trafford.”
He is not the only major summer signing with Memphis Depay inking a contract earlier this summer as well.
“Memphis is an unbelievable talent and he has so much quality and I am sure we will have a lot of fun with him on the pitch.”
But there are also the old guard at the club like Wayne Rooney.
“Absolutely, for me it’s a big honour to play with him in the same team. He is a leader, you can see that. He is a fighter, he is a striker, he is everything. I know that. It was also a reason to come here, to play with this kind of player.”

Manchester United posted a 1-0 win over Club America in the match. Morgan Schneiderlin, who signed the day the team departed for the U.S., knocked a looping header over the goalkeeper and to the far post in the 5th minute. The 46,857 fans at Century Link Field in Seattle were a mix of supporters from both clubs but it was a slight trend to red in the stands supporting the Premier League side. The players for Manchester United and Club America were not the only players catching the game. USWNT’er Megan Rapinoe was in the house and no doubt happy to meet Man Utd legend Ryan Giggs.

The match against Club America was the first test for United in the U.S. Van Gaal side face Major League Soccer side San Jose Earthquakes on Tuesday with the manager confident they should come out on top.
“Of course I think that we are at a higher level than San Jose Earthquakes but they are fit and they have played many matches,” said van Gaal in his press conference. “We are not fit yet. Also the difference between San Jose and Club America is 20 centimetres. Every player is 20 centimetres taller. The corner kicks and the free-kicks are much more dangerous from San Jose Earthquakes than Club America. There are a lot of differences and the playing style is different.”
