Manchester City sits on top of the Premier League table with 26 points entering the busy holiday stretch.  And the Sky Blues must credit their home style for the success with 25 of their 26 points coming while wearing their home jersey.

Surprisingly, Manuel Pellegrini’s side has only pulled on their away jersey two times and has yet to don their third jersey in their domestic campaign.  With so much pressure to promote and sell the various team jerseys and more and more teams pulling on different looks more often, it got our attention.

With curiosity piqued, we pulled together the 2015/16 Premier League Jersey Form Table to see if there were other trends related to club’s form related to which jersey they wear in matches.  And these are some that we found…

Manchester United's home, away, and third (European) Jersey for 2015/16Manchester United, with first year technical sponsor adidas, is eager to show off all their new looks.  And they are showing good form in each posting a wins in their home, away, and third jerseys.

The only other team to post the rare treble of a win in each jersey is West Ham United.  The Hammers could be well advised to use the away look more often as they are the only team in the top half of the table to take more points in the away look (10) compared with the home jersey (8).

Aston Villa is the other team to take more points in their away jersey (3) but as they are the only team in the Premier League yet to win a game in their home jersey this is no big surprise.

Arsenal are tied on points with Manchester City at the top of the table have similarly have relied on good form in their home jersey but have taken care of business when taking a new look to the field.  The Gunners have won both matches when they have worn their away jersey.

12 games into the season and Leicester and West Bromwich Albion are the only sides to keep their away jerseys in the dressing room. The Baggies are the only team to only wear their home jersey and with their aimlessly drift around in the middle of the table maybe it is time for a new look.

The Foxes have taken care of business in their home jersey but the one time they pulled on their third jersey there was no reversal of fortunes with the side taken the full 3 points.

As a whole, teams who actually have third jerseys are taking a large number of points while wearing them. Not every team in the league has a third jersey, but looking at the stats, they might be wishing they did. Overall, Premier League teams have found success in their cup and European third kits, taking 22 out of a possible 33 points. The seven wins and one draw in third kits largely overshadows the measly three losses.

Speaking of third jerseys, Chelsea should probably wear theirs more often. Boasting an impressive 1-0-0 record, the blues are undefeated in their third kit. It’s a vast improvement over their form in other jerseys – they’ve racked up nothing but a pair of losses while wearing their away tops, and a whole five losses while in the homes.  The Blues are rumored to be ready to pull out the away and third looks more over the holiday period so maybe it will bring with it better results.

AFC Bournemouth has worn their away jersey more than any other team with 5 matches played.  Unfortunately the Cherries have only won once and lost 4 times in the look.

Liverpool is the only team to get multiple results in their third jersey.  The Reds have pulled 4 points from the 2 matches in the jersey.

The latest fad is for club’s to have a black jersey and maybe it is paying off with Manchester United, Liverpool, and Chelsea all showing good returns in the dark style.

HAVE YOUR SAY…What trends do you see related to which jersey teams wear?  Are some jerseys luckier than others?
