South African Premier Soccer League club, Mamelodi Sundowns, unveiled their 2016/17 home and away jerseys by technical sponsor Puma on Monday. The jersey is inspired by the flair and boldness of the Bafana Ba style with the yellow and green a reference to their jersey colors and nickname, The Brazilians.
The yellow home jersey features a crew neck collar and wide stripes of green running from the collar to the sleeve cuff on the front and back of the jersey. The jerseys are seamless under the arms to prevent chafing.
THe jersey features the club badge over the heart and Puma logo over the right chest. Ubuntu-Botho S&E sponsor logo is across the chest. All the logos are in green.
“Together with our supporters we are extremely excited about this historic partnership with PUMA,” Thulani Thuswa, the club’s media officer, said at the unveiling. “We can expect top of the line high tech product, which will ensure our team’s continued dominance over our opponents on the pitch. Our supporters are also expecting to stay stylish, hence the phrase ‘Bafana Ba Style’.”
The full kit is completed with blue shorts and white socks.
The away jersey takes a modern approach with blue hoops. The shoulders and sleeves are in navy with the bottom hoop around the waist in sky blue. The 5 hoops in between are achieved with a gradient effect with a darker hoops at the top and getting lighter towards the bottom.
The club and sponsor logos are in yellow.
