Major League Soccer kicks off their 20th season in 2015 and the official match ball, the NATIVO, for the U.S.’ top domestic league was unveiled on Monday.  The new ball highlights a new era and the updated MLS identity.

The new ball utilizes the technology, testing, and material of the Brazuca, the official match ball of the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil.  The ball was well received by field players and goalkeepers and established itself as one of the best balls of the last 20 years.

nativo-mls-1The NATIVO uses 6-panels to optimize the flight of the ball and has a micro-texture surface to give the players command over the ball.  The ball was tested extensively with New England Revolution midfielder Lee Nguyen, New York City FC forward David Villa, D.C. United goalkeeper Bill Hamid closely associated with the testing done by MLS.

The design reflects the new MLS brand and the future of the league.  The red, white, and blue colorway is a tribute to the league’s two host countries, the U.S. and Canada.  A subtle Maple Leaf and Star are on the ball representing Canada and the U.S., respectively.  The ball includes the update MLS logo, the adidas logo, and Commissioner Don Garber’s signature.  Finally the name of the ball, the NATIVO, was selected to highlight the pride and importance of the league in developing domestic talent which goes on to showcase on the world stage.

“Our partnership with MLS is incredibly important to us because together, we’re ensuring our homegrown athletes have viable opportunities to play soccer at the highest level,” said Ernesto Bruce, Director of Soccer at adidas America. “Entering the league’s 20th season, we’re excited to bring our most advanced ball ever to the soccer pitch so we can help players perform at their best.”
