Big news today as MLS Commissioner Don Garber chose new league recruits Frank Lampard and Steven Gerrard for his 2 picks for the 2015 MLS All-Star Game. This was met with uproar from around the league as players mocked the decision because neither player has even registered a competitive appearance for their new clubs, yet they are already guaranteed a spot on the final 22-man gameday roster.

Apparently, Garber thinks that MLS All-Star coach Pablo Mastroeni can do what no other manager has been able to do before: play Lampard and Gerrard at the same time and make them work together well.

Major League Soccer also released their 2015 AT&T MLS All-Star Fan XI, a team voted on by the fans using social media and online polls. These 11 have the potential to be added to the final 22-man gameday roster, but the decision ultimately comes down to Mastroeni. There were no real surprises in the lineup as eight USMNT players were chosen along with other bright stars from around the league.

The Fan XI squad was completed with the selection of the 11th player, who was chosen through the AT&T/EA Sports MLS All-Star ‘More Than a Vote’ Tournament. Obafemi Martins of Seattle Sounders FC won his spot for the second year in a row because fans scored more than one million goals with the forward in EA Sports FIFA 15.
