Nike unveiled the United States women’s national team 2015 Women’s World Cup Home Jersey in Los Angeles today. World Soccer Shop had a ticket for this invitation only event and got to see the official reveal and take part in a Q&A with WNT players Alex Morgan, Sydney Leroux, and Tobin Heath.
First impressions are telling and Morgan love the complete look from the time she saw it.
“I was really excited when I first saw the new jersey. It is super clean and different than jerseys we have worn in the past. It really stands out as it is the first time we have had something from top to bottom with the jersey going through to the socks and connecting with the cleats. It is clean and simple and tells a story.”
The unveiling came on Earth Day and Nike touched on the efforts they are making to do their part. Each kit is made from an average of 18 recycled plastic bottles a process they use for all their club and national teams.
“It is so cool to see how far we have come,” Tobin said. “The design and technology is amazing and it is good to give back. I don’t even know how it’s made exactly…it sounds crazy to me but that we can wear something that is great for the environment is just an added bonus.”
Nike is as good as any brand at telling the entire story. They used the event to showcase some of the training and fashion wear associated with the new home jersey. Leroux and Morgan took a moment to jump out of their jerseys to model some from this line.
Leroux was wearing the WNT training suit. “(The training suit) is very comfortable,” Leroux explained. “It is very light and movable. I love the bold colors and think we will look great while training.”
After matches the coaches and players spend time talking to the media and fans. Morgan was showing off the ‘press look.’ And it won’t be hard for Morgan to pull-off as she is already a fan. “I already have these pants that I wear every day. I have this jacket in 3 different colors (laughing) and I actually came here today in one that was a different color. I’m very comfortable and it is also cute.” A win-win for the time spent being quizzed by the media.
From the start the event was promoted as providing a ‘unique head-to-toe look’ and Nike did not disappoint with the announcement of the brand’s first women’s-specific integrated soccer cleat collection. The pack includes a women’s specific cleat in each of the 4 silos, Mercurial, Magista, Hypervenom and Tiempo.
The cleats are in a vibrant ‘Blue Lagoon’, a tribute to the famous lakes of 2015 WWC hosts, Canada, and ‘Volt Yellow’ which provide an extension of the team sock.
