Weekend Eredivisie Roundup

FC Groningen swept aside ADO Den Haag 3-0 to reclaim their place at the top of the Eredivisie in convincing fashion.

In-form Groningen were knocked off their perch when PSV Eindhoven beat De Graafschap on Saturday, but goals from Petter Andersson and Evgeniy Levchenko within the first 25 minutes put them on their way to an instant return.

Marcus Berg wrapped up the scoring after 70 minutes to complete a miserable afternoon for ADO, who could not muster a single attempt of note and have now claimed just one point from their last three fixtures.

Heerenveen won two Eredivisie games in a row for the first time this season in emphatic fashion as they hammered Ajax 5-2.

Goals from Gerald Sibon and Roy Beerens put the hosts 2-0 ahead within the first eight minutes, before Sibon again and a Danijel Pranjic penalty made it 4-0 just after the hour mark.

Ajax threatened a miraculous comeback when Klaas-Jan Huntelaar pulled one back after 79 minutes then Luis Suarez reduced the deficit again from the penalty spot two minutes later.

But that was all the visitors could muster and Pranjic topped off the rout with a fifth Heerenveen goal in the final minute. To matters worse for Ajax, Gregory Van Der Wiel was sent off after 89 minutes.

A Matthew Amoah double helped NAC Breda on their way to a third successive victory in the Eredivisie, with a 4-2 win piling the agony on struggling FC Volendam.

Kees Kwakman and Amoah hit first-half goals to put NAC in the driving seat at the Kras Stadion, and although Mathieu Boots pulled a goal back, Amoah struck again to keep the visitors two goals ahead.

A second Volendam goal from Jack Tuyp set nerves jangling in the NAC camp, but a last-minute effort from Anthony Lurling put the result beyond doubt and moved Robert Maaskant's level on points with second-placed PSV Eindhoven.

NEC Nijmegen secured their first win since the opening day of the Eredivisie season as they beat struggling Feyenoord 2-0.

Second-half goals from Tim Janssen and Saidi Ntibazonkiza did the damage at De Kuip as NEC built on their draw against Heracles Almelo last weekend.

Feyenoord coach Gertjan Verbeek will be feeling the heat, though, with his side collecting just four points from their opening five league games despite being tipped as possible title-challengers before the start of the campaign.

FC Utrecht moved a point behind FC Twente after ending their opponents' unbeaten record with a 3-0 victory in a scrappy game.

Loic Loval headed the hosts into an early lead before Francis Dickoh doubled their advantage five minutes into the second half.

Chances were few and far between as the players struggled to control the ball in wet conditions, but Eredivisie debutant Nick De Jong added a third in the dying seconds to complete the humiliation for Steve McClaren's team.

Vitesse Arnhem came agonisingly close to their first win of the season on Saturday but Frank Demouge grabbed a last-minute equaliser for Willem II in a 2-2 draw.

The hosts went behind to a 15th-minute opener from Willem II's Mehmet Akgun but equalised immediately after half-time through Ricky van Wolfswinkel.

Willem II then had Jens Janse sent off in the 52nd minute and his dismissal proved a turning point as Vitesse's Nicky Hofs scored four minutes later.

However, a first win was not to be as Demouge pounced in injury time to snatch a share of the spoils.

Champions PSV secured an emphatic 3-0 win over De Graafschap.

Danko Lazovic scored twice (15 and 47) before Ibrahim Afellay wrapped up the win 11 minutes from time.

Heracles Almelo also beat Roda JC 2-0 courtesy of Willy Overtoom (60) and late substitute Vojtech Schulmeister (90).

On Friday AZ Alkmaar thrashed Sparta Rotterdam 6-0 with Mounir El Hamdaoui and Moussa Dembele each scoring twice.
