Two goals from Marcus Berg helped FC Groningen claim a 3-1 win over 10-man Feyenoord and take their place at the top of the Eredivisie.
The 10th-minute dismissal of Kevin Hofland did not help Feyenoord's cause with Sepp De Roover opening the scoring for Groningen 11 minutes later.
Berg then made it 2-0 with nine minutes on the clock and, although Andre Bahia reduced arrears, the Swedish striker popped up again in the dying seconds to make sure of the points.
Ajax stretched their unbeaten run to three matches with a 3-0 victory over winless Vitesse Arnhem courtesy of goals from Luis Suarez (61) and Jan Vertonghen (76 and 82).
They are now sixth in the table, level on points with ADO Den Haag who battled out a goalless draw with FC Utrecht.
Joel Tshibamba turned from hero to villain for NEC Nijmegen as they were held to a 1-1 draw by Heracles Almelo.
Substitute Tshibamba fired the home side in front after 74 minutes but was subsequently booked for over-celebrating to pick up his second yellow card of the match and an early return to the dressing room.
Heracles then made their numerical superiority count in the last minute when Ramos da Silva grabbed a point for his side.
In Rotterdam, Sparta and Roda JC also shared the points in a 2-2 draw. Rydell Poepon and Joshua John scored for the home side with Boldiszar Bodor and Pa-Modou Kah replying for Roda.
Both teams are still waiting for their first wins of the season.
On Saturday champions PSV Eindhoven claimed a 1-0 victory over newly-promoted FC Volendam at the Philips Stadion.
Stijn Wuytens netted the only goal of the game 17 minutes from time, heading home Otman Bakkal's cross, to move Huub Stevens' side onto nine points from four matches.
NAC Breda lie level on points with PSV following their 4-2 home win against Heerenveen.
Goals by Martijn Reuser and Anthony Lurling had the hosts two up within 37 minutes at the Rat Verlegh Stadion.
Michael Dingsdag looked to have given the visitors some hope heading into half-time by cutting the deficit in the 41st minute, but Matthew Amoah immediately restored NAC's two-goal cushion and then notched another in stoppage time to all but kill the game as a contest.
Danijel Pranjic struck a second for Heerenveen from the penalty spot just before the hour mark but they slipped down the table with their first defeat of the season.
FC Twente claimed a 3-0 home triumph over De Graafschap - Blaise N'kufo, Romano Denneboom and Stein Huysegems the men on target for Steve McClaren's side.
Finally on Saturday, Mounir El Hamdaoui struck a first-half hat-trick as AZ Alkmaar ran out 5-2 winners at Willem II.
Demy de Zeeuw and Moussa Dembele completed the scoring for Louis van Gaal's men, with Frank Demouge's brace providing some consolation for the shellshocked hosts.
