Heerenveen secured a place in next season's UEFA Cup after a drawing at NAC Breda to clinch a 4-2 aggregate win in their play-off final on Monday.
Going in to the game with a two-goal advantage from Thursday's first leg, a Gerald Sibon brace earned a draw and sealed their place in Europe.
The hosts started and finished the scoring through Fouad Idabdelhay and Rogier Veenstra respectively, but those goals were not enough.
NAC's dreams of making the UEFA Cup are not yet dead, however, as they must now face NEC Nijmegen with the winner taking the final berth and the loser a place in the Intertoto Cup.
Ernie Brandts' team made a fast start and almost took the lead inside four minutes when Rogier Molhoek's diving header found the side-netting.
Sander van Gessel had a shot from the edge of the area well saved by Rob van Dijk and Joonas Kolkka also went close before the home side broke the deadlock after 27 minutes.
Kolkka crossed from the right and Idabelhay arrived late in the penalty area to tuck the ball into the corner.
Hopes of a comeback were soon dashed though as Heerenveen restored their two-goal aggregate cushion three minutes before half-time.
Danijel Pranjic was fouled and Sibon struck the resulting 25-yard free-kick into the top corner with his right foot.
The visitors bossed much of the second half and almost took the lead after 63 minutes when Michael Bradley latched onto Michal Svec's pass, but his shot was well saved by Jelle ten Rouwelaar.
However, 12 minutes later, Sibon scored his second when he turned in Gianni Zuiverloon's cross at the far post.
Veenstra levelled on the day for NAC when he rounded the goalkeeper after being put clear by Ronnie Stam's through-ball but Heerenveen comfortably held on for the remaining five minutes to book their place in the UEFA Cup.
