After being wooed by other brands, Eden Hazard decided to stick with Nike and inked a contract extension last week to keep him in the Nike Mercurial.
The Belgian international has been with The Swoosh since he was 16-years-old and is a key player along with Cristiano Ronaldo, Wayne Rooney, Neymar and Zlatan Ibrahimovic in Nike’s promotional campaigns.
Nike was eager to keep Hazard on the team. The midfielder is considered by many one of the top young players in the world. He has said he is happy at his current club, Chelsea, but rumors have been circulating that Paris Saint-Germain, a Nike sponsored team, is eager to bring him to Ligue 1 next season.
“We are proud Eden has extended his contract,” said Raf Peeters, sports marketing manager of Nike Northern Europe. ‘We expect a lot from Eden the coming years and he will play a prominent role in our marketing machine.”
Before any potential move this summer, Hazard could be key to a good run for Belgium at this summer’s World Cup. The Red Devils are considered 1 of the top young teams in the tournament with an outside chance of winning it all.
Hazard was spotted wearing a pair of Nike blacked-out cleats ahead of Chelsea’s last Champions League match drumming up interest in whether he could debut a new look in Brazil.
