2016 Masters winner, Danny Willett, is a lifelong Liverpool fan and he and his family are heading to Anfield today in hopes of the Reds reversing a 1-0 against Villarreal in first leg of the UEFA Europa League semifinal.
“Me and my brothers and our wives are travelling across, hoping to have a nice time and support the Red men on,” Willett told The Anfield Wrap. “The atmosphere is going to be awesome. We’re going to try and get there a little bit early, an hour before when everyone starts piling on it’s just going to be mental.”
“1-0 down they’ve got a job to do, they know what they’ve got to do. I think it’s going to be a great game.”
Comebacks are nothing new for the English golfer or this Liverpool side.
Willett shocked the world as he outlasted Jordan Spieth, who appeared to be cruising to the title after the first 3 rounds, to win golf’s most famous prize, the Green Jacket of Augusta National.
Liverpool were in dire straits against Borussia Dortmund in the quarterfinal round only to shock the world with a 4-3 win over the Bundesliga side who appeared to be cruising to an easy victory and the semifinal berth.
Can the Reds repeat the magic today?
Willett and Co. will be on their side along with the faithful of Anfield.
“I’ve been around great atmospheres but nothing quite compares to Anfield and the Kop. It’s an awesome place,” Willett added.
