Neuville Sounds Foals Rally Cry
2008-09-30 13:09:27

Borussia Monchengladbach striker Oliver Neuville has called on his team-mates to rediscover the winning mentality from their successful promotion season last year.

The Foals currently lie bottom of the Bundesliga with only one win all season and Neuville feels it is time to change the philosophy of their game.

"The fact is, when we were more attack-minded in the second division, we had more success," he said.

"We are now playing more defensively but are conceding more goals.

"We have got to get back to using our strengths and that is in attack, not defence.

"We must impose ourselves on the game, whoever our opponents are. Hoffenheim are showing that it works and brings success."

Germany international Neuville has only managed an hour's play so far this season because of injury, but he hopes to return to full fitness to help set an example to his colleagues.

"Due to the defeats, everybody is concerned with themselves at the moment and it is hard for individuals to take responsibility, which is why we need to find stability as soon as possible," he added in an interview with the Rheinische Post newspaper.

"The next three games are decisive. We have got to get seven to nine points from them."

Monchengladbach face fellow strugglers Cologne, Bochum and Karlsruhe over the coming weeks and the 35-year-old has picked out the next match against their local rivals as a turning point in the season.

"Above all, it is crucial that we win against Cologne," he said.

"That would give us a lift and it would be great for the fans, but we have got to win or else we will have serious problems."
