Hamburg coach Huub Stevens insisted Saturday's draw at Wolfsburg was not a dirty game even though both teams ended the game with only nine men.
Hamburg's Vincent Kompany and Joris Mathijsen and Wolfsburg's Alexander Madlung and Grafite were all sent off in the final 10 minutes of the 1-1 draw.
Earlier Danijel Ljuboja's deflected strike had cancelled out Bastian Reinhardt's first-half opener for the visitors.
Stevens told Hamburg's official website: "It was not an unfair match. It did not warrant four red cards."
The Dutchman also criticised his side's performance as they slipped further adrift of Bayern Munich in the race for the Bundesliga title.
He added: "When you take a point away from Wolfsburg, you can't be too unhappy. But I was certainly not happy with our performance and the fact that against (Arminia) Bielefeld we will be missing three players (through suspension).
"Besides, we also should have been awarded a penalty, although we can blame ourselves a bit because we should have played the situation out better. Then it would have been 2-1 to us."
Wolves boss Felix Magath though was happy to take a point against a side which looks set to qualify for the Champions League.
He told the club's official website: "I am satisfied with a point.
"After all, we played against a team challenging for a place in the Champions League, so you can't take points for granted against such top sides.
"During the first half it was plain to see that we had not got over the disappointment of being knocked out of the semi-final of the DFB-Pokal in Munich in midweek.
"On the other hand, our battling performance in the second half was very good."
