Jermaine Jones has blamed Joachim Low for his decision to switch allegiances from Germany to the United States on Friday.
The Schalke midfielder opted to represent the USA in future after failing to make the breakthrough in the Germany set-up and he left with a scathing attack on coach Low.
"Even though my performances for Schalke were good enough, I had to suffer repeated setbacks from Low," he said in the Bild newspaper.
"Nobody told me what they did not like about me, but I am not going to be sixth choice in midfield. I am too proud of that."
In an interview with the Rheinische Post newspaper, Jones found one possible explanation for his exclusion.
He said: "If you look at the character of the national team, you notice one thing: I am a player who has his own ideas and speaks his mind and stands by his opinion and that is not what they want.
"There are only two players in the national team who dare say anything - (Michael) Ballack and (Torsten) Frings.
"All of the others are of a lower calibre."
Jones made three appearances for Germany, but since he never figured in an official fixture such as a World Cup qualifier, he was able to make the move to a different nation.
Jones' father was born in the States and the 27-year-old midfielder has dual citizenship.
