France made history when they qualified for the 2014 World Cup and were so happy with the result that they launched their new soccer jersey. The new jersey pays tribute to the past but will be worn as Les Bleus play for the glory in Brazil next summer.
The jersey features a retro 1958 crest with the cockerel-design taking center stage on its own. The cockerel logo has been freed from the badge and enlarged with the 1-star from winning the 1998 World Cup proudly shining overhead. The white collar is a rounded raquette style.
The combined retro look came about with the players wanting to ‘feel the history of our country.’ After the player walk-out debacle at the 2010 World Cup and some on-going off-field issues with players it must make fans feel this team may be headed in the right direction.
The enthusiasm was only pushed up a notch with France’s qualification. They became the first team to reverse a first leg 2-0 deficit in a UEFA World Cup play-in tie. Didier Deschamp’s side took care of business at the Stade de France beating Ukraine 3-0.
The jersey features all the latest technology from Nike. The jersey utilizes a combination of Nike Dri-Fit, which helps wick moisture away from the body, ‘burnout’ mesh and laser-cut ventilation, that aid in breathability.
One of the biggest changes is the use of a polyester and cotton blend. The cotton helps provide a softer feel and better overall aesthetic appeal.
The overall Nike Pro baselayer is the lightest ever but will give more options to the players. Nike is making a variety of baselayers to allow players to select the weight they want which will be great for the Brazil weather since temperatures can vary from hot during midday matches to much cooler at night in the southern regions of the country.
The home jersey will be paired with white shorts and red socks.
