After years of requests from fans, EA Sports will include women’s national teams to FIFA 16.  FIFA 16 will include 12 women’s teams with 8 teams currently in the FIFA Women’s World Ranking Top 10 and launches in the U.S. on September 12.

The USA, currently 2nd place in the FIFA Women’s World Rankings, will be included along with Australia, Canada, England, Germany, Mexico, Sweden, Brazil, China, France, Italy, and Spain.

“It is such an honor for women’s players and our team to be included in FIFA 16,” US WNT’s Alex Morgan said. “I always wondered what it would be like to see our team in the game and it is very cool to know that it is now a reality.”

The decision required more than simply adding women’s teams to the list of teams.  EA Sports is focused on getting the details right and making the game as lifelike as possible.  To that end, they brought in Morgan along with U.S. WNT teammates Abby Wambach, Sydney Leroux and Megan Rapinoe to train in their 360-degree motion-capture facility in Vancouver.

It is not just the players and their movements EA tried to accurately capture.  They also focus on making sure the player’s jerseys are the most recent.  They are spot on with the U.S. women’s national team 2015 home and away jerseys with Leroux and Rapinoe showcasing the new USA home jersey while Morgan is in the away soccer jersey with both featuring the 2-stars above the U.S. Soccer Federation badge.

“Bringing some of the best women’s players and teams in the world to our franchise is a massive event for EA Sports, and we are equally excited about bringing millions of fans a new way to play,” said David Rutter, vice president of EA Sports FIFA, in a news release. “We’re making sure fans get an authentic experience when playing with women’s national teams thanks to our innovative player capture and reference tools, as well as the sophisticated gameplay platform which we will continue to innovate on in ‘FIFA 16.'”

But for fans ready to see their favorite women’s team take on and beat the likes or Barcelona, Real Madrid, Chelsea, etc that will have to wait.  FIFA16 will only enable women’s teams to play other women’s teams.
