Young standouts from the B-team and the superstars from the senior team unite for a kit “crafted for the stars”
FC Barcelona has an art when it comes to creating superstars from their youth system. From the moment they arrive at the club, La Masia, the main training facilites, crafts and hones their players to follow the Barcelona philosophy and playing style to success on and off the pitch. The Barcelona system has led to player and team honors, all for the glory of putting on the Blaugrana shirt. For the unveiling of the new Nike Barcelona shirt, the rising stars of the club’s B team, Sergi Samper, Edgar Ié and Jean Marie Dongou Tsafack are seen with the senior team’s big players, some of whom went through the system and were honed to elite status.
Nike and Barcelona have been partners since 1998, and the newest home kit honors the traditional shirt and look while showing off some modern flair. The shirt has a rounded blue collar with a v-shaped tab at the bottom, showing off the Calatan flag design. Inside the collar, the triangular tab has the club’s trademark quote, “Mes que un club,” “More than a club” in Catalan. The garnet stripes over blue appear much thicker than usual. The shorts and socks are also in blue, with garnet trim. Barça appears on the socks, and on the back of the shirt along with the Nike swooshes in Senyera yellow. The Qatar Airways wordmark returns as the club’s main sponsor.
Despite losing out the title to Atletico Madrid in the La Liga finale, FC Barcelona still has all the tools to show they are an elite force. And with this new kit, the global fanbase will no doubt take up an interest in this new home kit. What do you think about Barça’s new kit?
