Manager-less West Ham United have confirmed the signing of Walter Lopez on a one year deal.
The Uruguayan international has recently been on trial with the Hammers and has now secured his move after leaving River Plate in the summer.
There has been some high interest in the 22 year-old from all around Europe and caretaker manager Kevin Keen was delighted with the prospect of seeing the attacking fullback in a West Ham lineup.
"Walter is a very attacking full-back who can get forward," Keen told the club's official website.
"Like (fellow new recruit) David Di Michele, he is another West Ham-type player who will hopefully show everyone at the club what he can do."
Lopez began his career with River Plate in 2004 but has also had experience in both Spanish and Mexican football with Xerez and UAG Tecos before arriving in the English game.
"I am really happy to be here and I hope to have a good career," he said.
"Upton Park is a beautiful stadium and it will be great to play for West Ham. I am looking forward to it.
"It is a great club and there are some great players at the club. I know about many of them like Lucas Neill and Craig Bellamy. Everyone has made me feel very welcome.
"I watch the Premier League all the time on TV. It is the No.1 league in the world, the best and it is great to be part of it.
"I am very happy that I am here and I get to play for West Ham. The fans are very passionate and I hope to show them what I can do."
