France defender Julien Escude could miss next month's European Championships after suffering a recurrence of his nagging back injury.
Escude sustained the problem in the first half of Sevilla's 2-0 win against Real Valladolid on Sunday and will now fly back to France to be examined by Jean-Pierre Paclet, the French Football Federation's doctor.
The left-sided centre-back has struggled with back trouble for much of the season and he has played just 16 games in the Primera Liga this campaign.
If fit, Escude is France's third-choice central defender, behind Lilian Thuram and William Gallas.
France's first game at Euro 2008 is against Romania on June 9.
Coach Raymond Domenech is set to name an enlarged provisional squad for the tournament on May 18.
