Monaco forward Jeremy Menez's slim chances of making France's squad for Euro 2008 will disappear if he requires surgery on his ongoing adductor problems.
The highly-rated 20-year-old has not appeared for the principality club since February 23 because of the injury.
Following a visit to a specialist, Menez has been advised to follow a course of intensive treatment for a period of 10 to 15 days.
Surgery may be needed after that, and that would definitively rule him out of contention for the Euros in June.
Philippe Kuentz, the club doctor at Monaco, said: "If, during this period of treatment, the results are not satisfactory, a surgical intervention will be carried out.
"This kind of operation would require a recovery period of six to eight weeks."
Menez was called up by France for the first time ahead of February's friendlies against DR Congo and Spain.
But even if he was fully fit, he would have been struggling to make it into Les Bleus coach Raymond Domenech's final 23-man squad for the Euros, which kick off on June 7.
Menez has scored seven Ligue 1 goals for Monaco this campaign.
