Bayer Leverkusen and Germany midfielder Bernd Schneider is likely to miss this summer's European Championships after undergoing surgery on a slipped disc on Friday.
Leverkusen's sports director Rudi Voller told the club's official website that Schneider's surgery "went well", but the statement also claimed that the veteran is not expected to return to training before mid-July.
However, Germany coach Joachim Low has not yet ruled the midfielder out of his plans for Euro 2008, which gets under way on June 7.
A statement on the German football federation's websiterevealed that Low plans to hold talks with the player and his doctors before making any decision on his squad, which he is set to announce on May 16.
The 2007/08 season has been one to forget for 34-year-old Schneider, who has already missed over two months with a knee problem and has suffered several other minor injuries.
