Massimo Oddo's hopes of playing for Italy at Euro 2008 have suffered a setback, with the AC Milan right-back set to undergo a knee operation on Wednesday.
The 31-year-old, a member of Italy's World Cup winning squad from 2006, suffered an injury to the meniscus in his left knee during Sunday's 2-1 defeat at home to Atalanta.
The Rossoneri have confirmed Oddo will undergo surgery, but have not revealed how long the player will be out of action.
Doctor Pierpaolo Mariani, the surgeon who operated on Roma captain Francesco Totti prior to the World Cup, will operate on Oddo.
Totti made a remarkable recovery to help the Azzurri lift the trophy in Germany.
Italy begin their Euro 2008 campaign against Holland on June 9.
