Hull Lacking King's Punch?
2008-08-04 11:58:31

After watching his Hull team go down 1-0 to Scottish side Hearts manager Phil Brown admitted they simply had not looked threatening enough in front of goal and that it is an issue they will need to address quickly.

After watching his Hull team go down 1-0 to Scottish side Hearts manager Phil Brown admitted they simply had not looked threatening enough in front of goal and that it is an issue they will need to address quickly.

No doubt adding to Brown's headaches is the news this morning that Wigan manager Steve Bruce is looking to pull the plug on Marlon King's proposed move to the Premiership new boys.

Hull have managed just one goal in their pre-season campaign so far and with just one fixture remaining before their season opening encounter with Fulham the Tigers are desperately lacking goals.

Reflecting on the game in Scotland Brown said he was well aware of the task that now faced him but he is confident that his developing side are up to the task.

"The final third is a little bit of a problem, we have only threatened from long-range free-kicks and follow-ups," Brown said.

"We lacked punch. We had that problem in the first 10 or 12 games last season. You address it by working on drills in training and building confidence.

But we are getting the six or seven new players drilled into what playing for this club is all about."

Former Watford striker King's move to Hull was agreed last month but has seemingly hit a snag along the way.

"It's not happening at the moment, so I'll probably knock the offer on the head," Bruce told the Daily Mail.

"It's gone on long enough."

Whether or not Brown will attempt to resurrect the deal following his sides latest goalless performance remains to be seen but with just Osasuna to come before the start of the season the Tigers boss will be hoping to find that cutting edge in attack very quickly.
