Stoke midfielder Tom Soares is desperate to earn more playing time at the Britannia Stadium after outlining his desire to stay at the club.
Soares made just eight appearances for Stoke following a £1.5million move from Crystal Palace last summer and was farmed out on loan to Charlton in January after falling completely out of favour under Tony Pulis.
Soares recaptured some of his best form in his 11 outings for the Championship strugglers and the 22-year-old now wants to take that into pre-season with the Potters.
He told the Stoke Sentinel: "Going on loan helped me. I went to Charlton, did well and got some confidence back. Hopefully, I can take that into this season.
"I want to stay and fight for my place, but if I am in the same situation again, then myself and the manager will have to sit down and see where my future lies.
"Every player wants to be playing. But I am the only person who can put that right and I am looking forward to it.
"As a player you will get critics, but you have to prove to people why you are at the club and what you are about."
