Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson is waiting on a late fitness test to see if Rio Ferdinand can play against Aston Villa at Villa Park on Saturday.

Ferdinand has been out with a back injury for two weeks, while Wayne Rooney is likely to be recovered from his calf injury to play. Out of action are Dimitar Berbatov, Wes Brown, Paul Scholes and Owen Hargreaves, while Cristiano Ronaldo, Nani and Anderson are set to start despite trips to Brazil in midweek. Teenage striker Danny Welbeck is in the squad after his wonder goal against Stoke last week.

The Villans will be without Carlos Cuellar for the game because he has a thigh injury, while Luke Young is expected to play at the back on the right with Nicky Shorey on the left.
