Martin O'Neill has expressed his desire to strengthen the Aston Villa squad during the January transfer window.

Villa have been on form so far this season and are lying fifth on the Premier League table following a superb win at Arsenal.

O'Neill was busy during the summer signing numerous players, but he intends to bolster his squad even further as Villa looks to improve further.

He said in the Daily Mirror: "We will be trying to bring in players in the window.

"We are looking to improve the depth and quality of the squad."

Reports have linked Villa with a move for Standard Liege midfielder Steven Defour, but they may face some competition from the Gunners for his services.
