Manchester City goalkeeper Shay Given says Alan Shearer's arrival at Newcastle may have come too late.
Former Magpies stalwart Given is concerned that Shearer was appointed Newcastle manager too late to save the club from being relegated from the Premier League.
Newcastle are still two points away from safety with just six Premier League matches left to play.
Given said: "Alan should have been brought in earlier to try and get some results.
"It would be a tragedy if they got relegated but the games are running out and the results are not going so well."
On his decision to move to City after 12 years at Newcastle, the Republic of Ireland international added: "It was a big decision but I made the right move.
"City could have signed any keeper in the world so I feel lucky they wanted me."
