Following his much-publicised transfer saga over the summer Cristiano Ronaldo hopes Manchester United fans can forgive him.

The Portuguese starlet made no secret of his desire to move to Spanish giants Real Madrid, but following behind the scenes wrangling Ronaldo was prevailed upon to stay at Old Trafford for at least one more season.

Ronaldo missed the first few weeks of the season due to ankle injury, and he was eager to see how fans would react to him when he eventually played his first game.

He said: "In the game when I came back against Villarreal I wasn't nervous but just a bit excited to see how the fans would react to me.

"Thank God things went well. This shows people have not forgotten all the good things we've done together and I'm very happy with that."

Now Ronaldo is concentrating on helping United repeat their double of last season, adding: "Things are going pretty well. I'd love a repeat of last season and continue to show some good progression."
