FA confirm Warnock will receive cap
2008-06-03 09:41:00

Blackburn defender Stephen Warnock will receive an England cap despite being the seventh substitute used against Trinidad and Tobago.

There had been speculation the full-back, who came on late in the second half during Sunday's friendly international for Wayne Bridge, would be denied the cap as normally only six substitutes are permitted in friendly internationals.

But the FA insist permission had been given for boss Fabio Capello to use seven substitutes during the game, which resulted in a 3-0 win for England.

FA director of communications Adrian Bevington said: "There has been a rumour going around that Stephen Warnock will not receive a cap because he was the seventh substitute used by Fabio Capello.

"This is not true. He will. It was all agreed before the game."
