West Bromwich Albion manager Tony Mowbray is tipping goalkeeper Scott Carson to force his way back into the England set-up.
Carson, who lines-up for Albion against Aston Villa at The Hawthorns on Sunday, has not played for England since his mistake in the Euro 2008 qualifier against Croatia.
But Mowbray, who swooped to sign Carson from Liverpool for £3.25m in July when Villa opted not to make his loan move permanent, is convinced the 23-year-old will grace the international stage again in the future.
Mowbray said: "I am pretty sure he believes he can get back into the England set-up.
"He is a great lad. His performance levels have been high and I am sure if he maintains that then his stock will rise again.
"At the moment he is working extremely hard at being a top goalkeeper for us.
"Any goalkeeper as young as Scott Carson who plays for England must be doing something right.
"You play for England because you are consistently good at what you do.
"You could sit there and think about that goal he conceded against Croatia and all of sudden you could write him off but that would be silly.
"He has been very, very good for us and he is a top keeper. As he develops he can get better and hopefully that development will continue at this club.
"It is good for people to have faith in players and believe in them."
Carson's display against West Ham last weekend was one of the keys to Albion winning their first game of the season and Mowbray hopes they can build on that win against Villa.
He added: "It is always important to win games but we had not been short on confidence before that win as we had been playing well.
"Hopefully, we can move on and win a few more games over the next few weeks.
"But this will he a hard game against Villa. They are winning matches and when I saw them at Tottenham on Monday the game could have been finished after half an hour. They were pretty impressive.
"To then go away in Europe and win as well is good for them so I don't think they will be jaded by their current schedule.
"I think they are full of confidence at the moment and I am pretty sure they will come here in buoyant mood.
"They will see a newly promoted team as another chance to get three points. But let's see what happens. We are looking forward to it.
"It will be a great game and the supporters will make it a great occasion.
"All derby games are important for the fans in terms of bragging rights and it is a while since we have beaten Villa."
Albion, whose last win against Villa was 23 years ago, should get a triple boost from defenders Gianni Zuiverloon and Abdoulaye Meite and striker Ishmael Miller.
They all missed the West Ham game through injury but have been back in training this week and have a chance of facing Villa.
