Portsmouth manager Harry Redknapp has made up with Fabio Capello and backed the Italian to lead England to the World Cup finals.
Redknapp was typically outspoken in his criticism of England's tactics following their dismal draw with the Czech Republic two weeks ago - especially Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard's role in the international side.
It prompted Capello to seek out the veteran Pompey chief after last Monday's defeat by Manchester United at Fratton Park but Redknapp insists the meeting was entirely amicable - and that he can see no better manager than Capello for the England job.
Redknapp told The News: "Me and Fabio had a chat after the United game, but he wasn't explaining anything to me at all.
"It's quite funny, he just said if you can play (Sylvain) Distin at left back I can play Gerard left wing.
"I said 'you're not wrong'. That was fair enough but things get blown up, I've met him on quite a few occasions and, as I've said many times, if he can't bring success to the team then I don't think anybody can.
"We (England) have a good group of players and I think a top-class manager. So if he can't do the job God help us really.
"I like him, whenever I've met him I've been really impressed with him. I've been following world football and his record is second to none."
