Beckham Clone
2008-04-01 15:24:47

David Beckham, the world’s most recognizable soccer player, will become much easier to spot in the near future.  The Los Angeles based Sports Medical Cloning Foundation has confirmed that they have successfully cloned Beckham.

“We are pleased with the success of this project,” lead scientist Dr. Geoff Sanders said.  “And believe by successfully cloning such a recognizable figure we have helped advance the science of cloning tremendously.”

The tentative plan, pending approval from FIFA and Major League Soccer, is to allow the clone David Beckham 1 to stand in for the midfielder the next time Becks is unavailable due to injury or while playing for England.

Once clone David Beckham 1 is able to showcase his skills on the pitch, the SMCF is considering ways to include additional clones as part of the Beckham brand and make future clones available to teams around the globe.

It is rumored that Beckham’s move to MLS and the Los Angeles Galaxy was largely due to the cloning project.

Beckham was not available for comment but the LA Galaxy midfielder is scheduled to be a guest on "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno" on Tuesday, April 1. The show airs at 11:35 p.m. ET/PT on the NBC; check local listings for the channel in your area.

Official David Beckham soccer gear available at the World Soccer Shop.  Clones currently not available.
