Didier Drogba gave fans a glimpse of his former magic with a goal and an assist in Chelsea’s 5-0 win over Schalke 04 in the Champions League on Tuesday night.  But the Ivory Coast gave fans an even further flashback by pulling on a pair of the Nike Mercurial 2.1 cleats from 1999 at training ahead of the match.

The cleat was the signature look of Ronaldo when he was playing at Inter Milan in 1999 and only had minimal updates – blue outline of the Nike Swoosh and a blue Swoosh on the heel of the instep – from the 1998 cleat.

It is no surprise to see Drogba in his Nike cleats.  The striker, in his second stint with Chelsea, has pulled on every generation of the Nike Vapor series starting with the Vapor I while at Guingamp.  He was back in his Nike Mercurial Vapor X AG (Laser Orange/White/Black) to help Jose Mourinho’s side wrap up the top spot in Group G.
