5-time Grammy nominated artist and producer, Diplo, discovered a passion for soccer during his travels around the world.  The 37-year-old found that soccer was a ‘social constant’ and that he wanted to be involved with the game and earlier this year along with other music executives purchased a minority stake in Arizona United SC of the United Soccer League (USL).

Diplo, who is also a supporter of the United States men’s national team and Arsenal FC, will help add a new younger attitude for the club with his huge following on social media (1.62 million twitter followers; 1.9 million Instagram followers and 2.4 million Facebook) and his understanding on how to market to the millennials.

But it is not only Diplo making fans of Arizona United excited about the coming season.  Former MLS head coach Frank Yallop, who won 2 MLS Cup titles and 1 Supporters’ Shield while with the San Jose Earthquakes.

“I’ve been really fortunate to travel all over the world and experience different cultures through music. Wherever I am, Jamaica, Spain, England, China, etc., soccer is a social constant,” said Diplo. “I wanted to figure out a way to get involved with the game and team sports so when Arizona United presented itself, I immediately jumped at the opportunity. I see soccer the same way I see music, as a connective tissue linking the world’s cultures.”
