Thailand will debut their 2014/16 home and away kits in upcoming friendlies against the Philippines, Palestine and New Zealand in preparation for the 2014 AFF Suzuki Cup. The Thais have established themselves as a regional powerhouse with appearances in the final of the Southeast Asian championship in three the last four tournaments. The War Elephants have also won three edition of the competition.
Thailand’s new kits are the second set of uniforms provided by domestic sportswear firm Grand Sport following the expiration of their deal with Nike.
Both jerseys use the same design featuring a series of tonal horizontal stripes and a classic soccer shirt polo collar. The combination of the collar and the accompanying placket gives the kits a similar appearance to the 2013/14 Manchester United home shirt and the 2014/15 USA home jersey.
The Thailand 14/16 home kit is all blue while the away strip is all red. The Thailand Football Association crest and Grand Sport logo area embroidered on the chest. Golden prints of Thai national symbols appear on inside and outside neck areas.
Given the expertise that Thai sportswear manufacturers have built assembling kits for the likes of Nike, adidas and PUMA over the last two decades, it’s of little surprise that Thailand’s new jerseys are quite well done!
Often a destination for touring European clubs, Thailand is ranked 165th in the world by FIFA. The team will meet Singapore, Myanmar and Malaysia in the group stage of the Suzuki Cup.
