By Hunter York – Memphis Depay signed with Under Armour in March and even at that time rumors were swirling for a big time move to the English Premier League. Those rumors were confirmed earlier this week when the Netherlands international confirmed his move to Manchester United.
Signing with the Red Devils is an ideal move for the player, called the ‘Dutch Ronaldo,’ and for Under Armour. Depay was spotted shortly after signing with the American cleat brand wearing a blacked out cleat which many believe to be a new speed cleat soon to be released.
The cleat was subsequently adorned with the Under Armour logo.
And as he helped PSV win the 2014/15 Eredivisie title, Depay pulled on a flashy new colorway for the still unknown silo possibly setting up Old Trafford as the stage for the cleat official on-field unveiling.
Depay is a rising superstar after scoring 38 goals in 88 appearances for PSV Eindhoven in 4 years at the club. He scored 2 remarkable goals for the Netherlands at last summer’s FIFA World Cup. And he has achieved all this at the young age of 21-years-old.
But don’t be looking for ‘Depay’ on your official jersey. Depay was born to a Ghanaian father and Dutch mother who split when he was very young. Instead of using his last name on his kit, he sports his first name, ‘Memphis.’
MUFC fans will hope that the newly acquired winger will become a figurehead in the starting 11 just like CR7 did in his time in England.
What do you think this new cleat is?
