D.C United is the most decorated club in Major League Soccer with 13 international and domestic titles to their name.  The added to their trophy haul with the ATX Pro Challenge title earlier this month which came with what must be either the best or worst piece of silverware in soccer.

“I have a big fantasy football trophy in my house of a fat guy sitting on the couch with slippers on, a beer in one hand and the remote in the other. It’s called the John,” Bobby Boswell told Steven Goff of the Washington Post. “The armadillo puts it to shame. Fans want to hold it. Kids want to touch it. Maybe they should think about making the Stanley Cup, maybe the World Cup, an armadillo.”

The trophy is unmistakable!  A standing Stetson-wearing armadillo is poised ready for the draw with a pistol holstered on each hip and of course a large shiny belt bulky holding up the arms.  This fellow is not going to end up as roadkill!

The Black-and-Red earned top honors with a 2-0 win over the Austin Aztex and a 1-0 win over FC Dallas at Mike A. Myers Stadium in Austin, Texas.

Chris Rolfe scored the lone goal in the 54th minute in the win over FC Dallas.

The Capitol city side are in pre-season preparing not only for the start of the MLS domestic campaign but also for the CONCACAF Champions League quarterfinals.  United face Alajuelense in Costa Rica on February 26 in the first leg followed with a match on March 4 at RFK Stadium.
