One of the world’s most polarizing and well-known athletes has reached yet another milestone in their career. However, the field of play isn’t on the pitch or a court, but rather on social media. Cristiano Ronaldo, the Real Madrid and Portugal superstar, has reached over 100 million likes on Facebook today.

The winner of both the FIFA Balon D’Or and UEFA Best Player in Europe awards earlier in the year, Ronaldo commemorated the milestone by posting a video thanking his many friends.

“I’m so honored to have reached 100 million likes on Facebook. It’s amazing to achieve this incredible milestone and connecting with all the fans around the world. Their outstanding support inspires me and I thank them all,” The prodigious Portuguese striker said.

CR7 has been very social on his official pages, sharing pictures from his many accolades and achievements, to hanging out with his supermodel girlfriend Irina Shayk, and many other professional athletes, musicians and other celebrities. Glenn Miller, Facebook’s head of Sport and Entertainment Partnerships in the EMEA (Europe, Middle East and Africa) Region released an infographic all about this incredible feat and features some very notable statistics. His Children’s Day photo with son Cristiano Jr. as he was recovering from a thigh injury ahead of the World Cup in Brazil earlier this year has over 3.4 million likes, his most ever. The 100 million “likers” can fill Ronaldo’s home nation Portugal ten times over.

Cristiano Ronaldo’s global appeal is in a class all its own. The nearest competition on the social media outlet is rival club FC Barcelona, with over 76 million likes for the Catalan club. Ronaldo’s own club Real Madrid has over 75 million likes. Argentina and FC Barcelona talisman, Ronaldo’s biggest rival Lionel Messi is the second most popular athlete on Facebook with over 74 million.
