Boca Juniors forward Martin Palermo offered his gratitude to the supporters after netting his 180th goal for the club in a weekend win over Gimnasia.
The strike put Palermo level in the club books with Francisco Varallo, who starred in the 1930's.
"I want to score more goals and bring to joy to the people," Palermo told the club website. "It's nice to have one's achievements recognized."
"When they ask you for autographs, for snapshots - these are things that fill you with satisfaction."
The veteran striker also gave credit to Gimnsia for forcing the Bombonera crew to work hard for the points, and to Bocas keeper Mauricio Caranta for denying some top notch chances.
"In truth, it was a complicated match," offered Palermo. "They had clear scoring chances and Mauricio was in great form."
"Later, we missed several opportunities to score that would have allowed us to end the game feeling at ease."
